Bell's palsy is the most common cause of acute unilateral facial nerve paralysis, causing sudden weakness or drooping of one side of the face. In Bell's palsy (lower motor neuron), the forehead is weak — you cannot raise the eyebrow. In stroke (upper motor neuron), the forehead is typically spared. Sudden facial weakness with other neurological symptoms requires emergency evaluation.
